Cats & Jammers

hot swing, sweet harmonies

The trio known as Cats & Jammers had a sixteen year run playing an array of acoustic music from hot swing to low down blues with style and panache. The band ceased regular performing in 2002, when Piper Heisig moved away from the San Francisco area. They played reunion concerts in Seattle in November 2005, and for Tony's birthday at the Freight & Salvage in April 2011.

Accompanying themselves on a variety of instruments including string bass, guitar, violin and saxophone, The "Cats" bring to mind such groups as the Mills Brothers, the Boswell Sisters and the Delta Rhythm Boys.

Together, Piper Heisig on bass and vocals, Sylvia Herold on guitar and vocals and Tony Marcus on violin, guitar, saxophone and vocals create a fresh style of music that is both fun and immediately recognizable. They have performed before wildly enthusiastic audiences at many major festivals around the country including the Strawberry Music Festivals in California, the Centrum Hot Jazz Festival in Washington, the Black Mountain Festival in North Carolina and the San Francisco Jazz Festival.

The band has four albums on the Tuxedo Records label.
